Austria was always a destination for refugees. The fugitives were welcomed as persecuted and fended off as "strangers".
The iconographies of flight changed depending on the point of view. A person's changing identities, their masks and the mental bridges between the here and there become the artistic subject matter: memories, phantasms, traces and documents.
The exhibition presents works by artists, mainly living in Austria, who address the issues of flight, migration and prejudice, who deal with their own experience of flight in very different ways or reject it as a label of identification.
